#209: Kim Howerton – Diagnosing (or Misdiagnosing) Depression

October 22, 2021

Daisy’s latest extraordinary woman, Kim Howerton, returns to the podcast to share her story about depression.

Kim Howerton struggled with her relationship with food from the time she was 8. As the years went by and her health problems mounted, she felt at the mercy of her body and out of control with her weight. A dedicated seeker of pleasure, she realised that life in a body that was always in pain was no way to live; that a pleasurable life starts by living in a body that feels good.

Enter Keto – a life that has brought together her love of satisfying, delicious foods in a way that makes her actually feel good. She now shares her love of all things Keto by creating recipes, running a Facebook group and her podcast Keto Life Support.

#208: Bouncing Back with Suzie Edge – Part 2

October 15, 2021

Daisy and Suzie are back to finish their chat about Bouncing Back. In this episode Suzie shares some of the strategies that have helped her get firmly back on track and are powering her towards her next goal.

A big thanks to Becky for coming up with “Bouncing Back” as this new format’s name.

Listen to Part 1 here:

#207: Bouncing Back with Suzie Edge

Suzie Edge trained as a molecular cell biologist before moving to clinical medicine, to spend more time talking to people, rather than just bugs in test tubes. She went on to work as a junior doctor in a variety of medical specialties including infectious diseases, haematology, and trauma and orthopaedic surgery. She recently completed an MLitt in Modern History to feed her fascination for the history of the human body and the history of medicine.

Always on the lookout for gory historical details, Suzie loves telling stories of how we have treated our human bodies in life and in death.

Suzie has a senior brown belt and is a trainee instructor in the martial art of Sooyang Do. She lives in a wee cottage in the Highlands of Scotland with her husband, their two teenage daughters and their dog, Scout.

Suzie left clinical medicine in 2019, having become disillusioned with the medical world and now, after securing a book deal,  she is writing about medical history, creating online content about the history of the human body, and feeling good about life away from hospital medicine. She found the keto diet properly in early 2018 and had a wonderful year in 2018, which changed her life but as she talked about today, nothing is quite that simple!

In this Mindset matters episode, Daisy and Terri talk about discomfort and how to start looking at it differently.

#204: Molly Gallagher – Using Keto to Treat PCOS and Lipedema

September 17, 2021

Daisy’s latest extraordinary woman, Molly, talks about how she stumbled into keto as a way of avoiding bariatric surgery and how it has proved to hold the answers to many of her health challenges. Find out too what it felt like to eat meat for the first time after being raised on a plant-based diet.

Molly Gallagher is a learning and development professional and crochet hobbyist who lives in Durham, NC, USA.

Molly has been following the ketogenic way of eating since October 2014, when she had her first appointment with Dr. Eric Westman at Duke.

Raised vegetarian, Molly needed to learn how to prepare meat dishes, but first, she had to learn how to chew steak. While adapting to a protein-based diet was a challenge for her at first, her body responded so well to the ketogenic diet that she knew that she was finally eating optimally for her body and health. As she discovered, eating fruits, starchy veggies, and “healthy carbs” all fed the inflammation in her body.

By following the ketogenic diet, Molly has reversed her PCOS symptoms and pre-diabetes diagnosis, reduced her anxiety, increased her energy, and has prevented her lipedema from progressing. Molly also has a new feeling that she gets after eating her meals: satiety.

Feel free to follow her on instagram: @mgmgirlgallagher
